Dry lining covers overboarding ceilings, dot and dab plasterboarding to existing walls, and fixing plasterboard to stud walls. It is dusty work carried out inside your home, so protection goes down over the working area before the first board goes up, and the room is cleaned down at the end of each day. OR JUST SKIMMING
Dry lining is plasterboard fixed to a wall or ceiling and then skimmed. On solid walls that is dot and dab plasterboarding; on ceilings it is usually overboarding what is already up there. It is the right job when the surface underneath is blown or hollow, when a wall is too far out to be floated back, or when a ceiling needs a new face rather than another repair. If the existing surface is sound and only needs skimming, we’ll tell you – there’s no point in doing more work than necessary.

OVER THE WHOLE SURFACE
Boards are fixed to a true line, the joints are taped, and the finish is taken over the whole surface. The result is a smooth, even surface and a clean finish ready for decorating.

MOST PEOPLE WORRY ABOUT
Most worries about a plasterer come down to two things: whether he turns up, and what the place looks like when he leaves. Boarding a room makes more dust and more waste than skimming does, so the protection and the clean down matter more, not less.
Areas should be cleared before the first day.

The work carries a one year workmanship guarantee, given in writing and running from the day the work is finished. It covers faults caused by our preparation or application. It does not cover structural movement, damp, leaks, failure of the existing background, everyday wear and repeated knocks, or damage from work carried out by others
We carry £1,000,000 public liability insurance through Simply Business, in case anything ever goes wrong

PRICE
WHAT THE PRICE
DEPENDS ON
What moves the price is the condition of the walls and ceilings and how much preparation they need. A ceiling overboarded and skimmed, or a room dot and dabbed to existing walls and skimmed, is priced on the condition of the background and the preparation needed. Size comes into it, but the preparation is usually what decides the figure. Any duration is an estimate given with the quote.
A ceiling overboarded and skimmed — around £600.
A room around 3m by 3m, dot and dabbed to existing walls and skimmed — around £1,500.

BEFORE THEY BOOK
How much mess will there be?
Boarding a room makes dust while it is happening. Coverings go over the floor and anything in or around the working area where needed, and the room is cleaned down at the end of each day.
Do you move the furniture?
Areas should be cleared before the first day.
Do radiators need removing before work starts?
It is good practice to have radiators taken off so we can plaster behind them. Taking a radiator off is plumbing work, which we do not carry out. If radiators stay on the wall, we can only blend around them.
Do skirting boards need removing?
We plaster down to existing skirting where it is staying. If skirting is being changed, we ask that it is taken off before we start. Removing skirting is not part of our work.
What about sockets and switches on a wall that is being boarded?
Socket and switch faces usually have to come off a wall that is being boarded, because the boarding adds thickness in front of them. That is electrical work, which we do not carry out.
Do I need to be there?
We ask that someone lets us in each morning and locks up at the end of the day. It helps if you are contactable by phone while we are there. You do not need to stay in the house while the work is going on.
How long will you be in my house?
You will be given an estimated number of days with the quote.
How long before I can paint new plaster?
New plaster dries from dark patches to an even pale pink, and it is dry when the last dark patches have gone. How long that takes depends on the room, the ventilation and the time of year. We give an estimate for your job based on the conditions on site.
