COMMON QUESTIONS
THE QUESTIONS WORTH ASKING
BEFORE THE WORK STARTS
These are the questions homeowners put to us most often.
Where the honest answer depends on your room, we say so, and we confirm it in writing before any work is agreed.
An enquiry can be sent at any time. We reply as quickly as we can during working hours, Monday to Friday.
ASKED MOST OFTEN
THE TWO QUESTIONS THAT COME UP FIRST
How long before I can paint new plaster?
New plaster dries from dark patches to an even pale pink, and it is dry when the last dark patches have gone. How long that takes depends on the room, the ventilation and the time of year. We give an estimate for your job based on the conditions on site.
Can an Artex ceiling be skimmed over?
In most cases it can. The surface is prepared and sealed first, then skimmed to a clean finish ready for decorating. Where the pattern is very heavy, or the surface is loose or blown, overboarding is the better route and we say so.
BEFORE THE FIRST MORNING
WHAT THE ROOM NEEDS TO LOOK LIKE
Do you move the furniture?
Areas should be cleared before the first day. Floors and anything in or around the working area are protected where needed.
Do radiators need removing before work starts?
It is good practice to have radiators taken off so we can plaster behind them. Taking a radiator off is plumbing work, which we do not carry out. If radiators stay on the wall, we can only blend around them.
Do skirting boards need removing?
We plaster down to existing skirting where it is staying. If skirting is being changed, we ask that it is taken off before we start. Removing skirting is not part of our work.
Does wallpaper need removing first?
Yes. We ask that wallpaper is taken off before we start. If it is still up when you ask for a quote, tell us.
Do I need to be there?
We ask that someone lets us in each morning and locks up at the end of the day. It helps if you are contactable by phone while we are there. You do not need to stay in the house while the work is going on.
MESS, WASTE AND TIME
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE MESS
How much mess will there be?
Plastering is wet, dusty work and no version of it leaves a room untouched. What matters is what happens to the mess. Protection goes down before we start, over the floors and anything in or around the working area, and the working area is cleaned down at the end of each day.
How long will you be in my house?
You will be given an estimated number of days with the quote. We arrive around 8am. 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday are the hours we are contactable, and an enquiry can be sent at any time.
What happens to the waste?
Waste is bagged and left on site, and can be moved to a spot of your choosing where that is practical. We do not take waste away.
ONCE THE WORK IS DONE
WHAT IS COVERED, AND WHAT IS NOT
What if I am not happy with it?
If something is not right, tell us and we will put it right. The guarantee wording is given with the quote.
